Kapara was built in 1897 as the home of George Arthur Jury and his family.

During the course of the First World War Kapara was purchased by the Repatriation Department and renamed Anzac Hostel. Then it was sold to the Red Cross in 1959, and by 1974, while still offering services to ex-servicemen and their families, Kapara was beginning to service a growing need in the community for general nursing home care.
