Australian Marine Wildlife Research & Rescue Organisation Inc

Rescue, Rehabilitate, Research & Release

AMWRRO is the only organisation in South Australia licensed to rescue, rehabilitate and release all seabird, sea turtle and seal species. AMWRRO is also one of the main rescue organisations that can dispatch rescue personnel for any dolphin rescue within South Australia.

Our goal is to better educate the greater community in marine wildlife issues that are found across Australia and to be on call and actively respond to any injured marine wildlife that require assistance.

AMWRRO is a non-for-profit organisation that is managed by three management committees and is run by trained and very dedicated volunteers.

AMWRRO was officially launched in 2010, continuing the work of Project Dolphin Safe Association Inc (PDS) which was started in 1998 after the killing of six Port River dolphins.

The initial objectives of PDS were to patrol the Port River estuary and associated waters, to act as a deterrent to those wanting to inflict harm on marine wildlife and to remove floating debris that could pose a risk to these creatures and their environment.

In the years to follow PDS incorporated several additional objectives which were considered important for these animals and their habitats, one of which was South Australian Seabird Rescue (SASR).
