Callington Railway Station

The 1887 establishment date has a degree of poetic licence. In 1887 Friedrich W Fromm planted the Wonganella Vineyards, following that with a winery on the edge of the Gomersal Creek in 1891 that remained in operation for 90 years, finally closing in 1983.

In 2000 a group of friends with strong credentials in both the making and consumption end of the wine industry bought the winery and re-established the vineyard, planting 17ha of shiraz, 2ha of mourvedre and 1ha of grenache via terraced bush vines. The Riesling comes from purchased grapes, the Grenache Rose, Grenache Shiraz Mataro and Shiraz from the replanted vineyard.
