The Demo Club are so proud of the newest venture ‘Thyemon Argent’ which has now successfully opened. The Club is now undergoing renovations in the gaming lounge.

The Club is excited to share the renovations plans with all Members and Guests. There are several new additions to the existing Club including an extended Gaming Lounge, a new SPorts Bar and Oriental Restaurant. The building next door will be transformed into a gorgeous licensed Cafe and Function Centre serving wood-fired pizzas, gourmet pasta’s, foccacias, tapas and much much more. The Function Centre will hold up to 200 people and will have modern decor throughout.

This weekend in Broken Hill and Silverton is a biggy!!! On Saturday 14th we have the 50th Anniversary St Pat’s Race Meeting. This is important to me, because, not only do I have a photography gallery at Silverton, my husband trains racehorses from our property and we have 3 horses racing at this meeting. Add to that the fact that hubby, Barry, is one of only four jockeys remaining in the Broken Hill area who rode at the first St Pat’s meeting and you could say we’re a bit excited.

On Sunday 15th, Silverton is host to the 4oth St Pat’s Silverton Recovery Day at the iconic Silverton Hotel, so there will be plenty of action around the village to keep people interested and entertained. Silverton Photography will be open all day Sunday (but closed Saturday for the races) and we would love to see all the visitors to the area. Hopefully we will have a winner for you to pat and get a selfie with. The gallery has lots on show, with prices to suit all budgets and we take all major credit cards.

To get here, follow the signs from the Penrose Park turnoff on the Silverton Road. The signs will be decked out with green balloons and streamers. So come on folks, make the effort to leave the main road!! Call in and see us, you won’t be disappointed.

About St Pats Race Club

The Broken Hill St Patricks Race Club began in 1965 when John Toms, a well known local trainer thought of an idea to boostlocal racing and help alleviate the desperate financial position of the local Catholic schools.

During a game of golf with Catholic administrator, Father Pat Murray, John suggested that by using volunteer labour from within the Catholic School system, they could establish an annual race meeting. The event would include attractive prize money, trophies, food and drink and later fashions of the field. Excited by the prospect, they talked the idea over with other racing enthusiasts. A committee was formed to draw up plans for the inaugural race meeting to be held on Saturday 19 March 1966.

The inspirational foresight of John Toms and the Irish persuasion of Father Murray lead to the Broken Hill becoming host to the most widely publicised and richest one day country race meeting in Australia. There can be no doubt that neither John Toms nor Father Murray could have envisaged the great tourist potential that the St Patricks Race Meeting would become for the city of Broken Hill and its community.

Today the phenominal success of the St Pat’s race meeting continues.

Previously held 2 weeks prior to Easter, in 2002 and 2003, the club secured a TAB date to race four weeks before Easter. The race date has now been returned to its original concept of two weeks before Easter from 2004 onwards.

Today, local sporting groups and charity organisations provide staff for race day services in return for payment. The widespread benefits from the race day now assist not only the Catholic Schools but also, many other local non-profit organisations.

The efforts of the past and present committees have been recognised at the New South Wales Country Racing Council Awards for Excellence on two occasions when the Broken Hill St Patricks Race Club received the awards for the Best Non-TAB New South Wales Country Race Meeting for 1998/99 and 2000/2001.

St Pats reputation as a great event has also been acknowledged by the Keep Australia Beautiful Council when it awarded the Club its annual award for Best Community Event in the 2000 Tidy Towns Competition.

The Club continued to be recognised for its community efforts in 2002, winning the Western Catchment Environmental Care Award for a major greening project at the Broken Hill Racecourse.

A finalist in the Tourism NSW Awards for Excellence in 2003, 2004 and 2005,and Racing New South Wales industry awards in 2003 and 2004, St Pat’s continues to grow, enhancing the social and economic fabric of the entire far west region of New South Wales.

Its Christmas time again, and what a better way to celebrate than with Broken Hill City Council and Rotary Club of Broken Hill South Annual Christmas Pageant!

Line the parade route of Oxide and Argent Streets on Saturday 6 December with the parade commencing at 6pm to see amazing floats in the pageant. Immediately following is the Demo Club After Party at Sturt Park. Enjoy the delicious food at the food court, entertainment by the Take Two duo, illusionist Kyahm, free kids face paintings, merry-go-round, jumping castle and pony rides for the kids. Free outdoor screening of Fred Claus at 8.30pm.

A wonderful night filled with Christmas spirit.

One of 53 finalists selected in John Villiers Waltzing Matilda Outback Art Show 2015 which opened on the 15 May at the Waltzing Matilda Centre and Regional Gallery Winton unfortunately a devastating fire destroyed the building and contents on 18 June all paintings were destroyed. Currently developing water colours from sketches from centralian trip.
