Porter's Lagoon

Porters Lagoon was the scene of water sports like swimming, rowing and yachting in the 1920s. In 1928, over 3,000 people attended the annual Aquatic and Athletics Sports Carnival, with photos of the event showing cars packed around the lagoons edge.

In winter with good rains, Porters Lagoon fills, but rarely to the depth of the past. It is still a refuge for water birds, like the banded stilts, avocets, water fowl and other waders that can be seen feeding along the edges of the lagoon. In summer it dries up to become a saltpan and at other times it becomes a pink lake.
