Old Noarlunga

In 1840, one of the states first towns, the No-orlunga Township, was laid out on a bend of the Onkaparinga River as it winds its way out of the national park on a course to Port Noarlunga and the Gulf St Vincent. The name Noarlunga was derived from an Indigenous Kaurna word Nurlongga-nurlo, meaning bend. This bend became more commonly known as the Horseshoe since European settlement.

The river soon became a trade route for locally-milled flour transported to ships docked at Port Noarlunga.

Noarlunga Centre

Ten minutes north of Old Noarlunga is Noarlunga Centre the location of the regions biggest shopping precinct, Colonnades, which is also among the largest in the state. Colonnades houses over 200 speciality shops, supermarkets and department stores. Nearby is the Wallis Cinema, a bowling alley, ice skating rink, swimming centre and multi-sports venue.
